Backup and disaster recovery for Sydney businesses

Last reviewed 24 September 2026.

Static Computers provides managed backup and disaster recovery services for Sydney businesses. We back up Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data up to four times a day and back up on-premises servers, keep an offsite copy that ransomware can't delete, and test restores regularly so you know your critical data will come back. If disaster strikes, we restore systems to agreed recovery time and recovery point targets. Backup and disaster recovery is quoted after a complimentary IT review.

Why backup and disaster recovery matters

Data loss happens in many ways: ransomware, hardware failure, system failure, accidental deletion, human error, a corrupted database, or a flood or fire in the office. For most businesses, losing access to critical systems for even a day stops business operations. A tested backup and disaster recovery plan is what decides whether that's an inconvenience or a crisis.

Backup and disaster recovery are two parts of the same capability:

  • Data backup protects data: regular copies stored safely so individual files, mailboxes or whole systems can be recovered.
  • Disaster recovery (DR) restores operations: the plan, infrastructure and process to get critical systems and business applications running again after a disaster.

What's backed up

Data How
Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace: email, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Drive Included cloud backup, running up to four times a day
On-premises servers Server backup, with an offsite copy

Microsoft and Google keep their services running, but protecting your data from accidental deletion, ransomware or a compromised account is your responsibility. That's why Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace need their own backup.

How we protect your backups

  • An offsite copy. At least one copy is stored offsite.
  • Immutable or air-gapped copies. At least one copy can't be changed or deleted for a set period, even with admin credentials. Air-gapped copies can't be reached from your network at all.
  • Separate credentials for backup systems, protected with MFA.
  • 3-2-1 data protection: three copies of your data, on two types of storage, one offsite.
  • Data integrity checks. Backups are verified so corrupted backups are caught early.
  • Monitoring. Failed backup jobs are flagged and fixed.

Restore testing and test results

A backup that has never been restored is a guess. Static Computers restores sample files, mailboxes and key systems regularly and records the test results, so you have evidence for insurers and compliance. The Essential Eight requires backups to be tested; this is how you prove it.

Recovery time objective and recovery point objective

What it means Static Computers' target
Recovery point objective (RPO) How much data you could lose, measured in time since the last backup Agreed with you up front, system by system
Recovery time objective (RTO) How long until critical systems are working again Agreed with you up front, system by system

We agree RPO targets and RTO targets with you up front, based on what your business can tolerate, and design the disaster recovery solution to meet them.

Your disaster recovery plan

Every client gets a documented disaster recovery plan covering:

  1. Which critical systems and critical data come back first.
  2. Who to contact, and how, when systems are down.
  3. Where the infrastructure will be restored: on site, in the cloud, or both.
  4. Step-by-step recovery process for each system.
  5. How and when the plan is tested and updated.

If disaster strikes

  1. You contact 1300 366 638. We confirm what's affected.
  2. We isolate the problem, for example a ransomware-infected device, so backups aren't touched.
  3. We restore systems from the most recent clean backup, in the order set in your recovery plan.
  4. We check everything is working, tell you what happened, and fix the cause so it doesn't recur.

Who it's for

Backup and disaster recovery from Static Computers suits small and mid sized businesses in Sydney that hold sensitive data, run critical business applications, or face regulatory or insurance requirements for tested backups.

What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup protects data by keeping copies you can restore. Disaster recovery restores operations: the plan, infrastructure and process to get critical systems running again after a disaster. You need both.

How often are backups tested?

Static Computers tests restores regularly, restoring sample files, mailboxes and key systems, and records the test results. Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace backups themselves run up to four times a day.

How fast can you restore after ransomware?

It depends on what's affected. Individual files and mailboxes are the quickest to restore; a full server takes longer. We agree recovery time objectives with you up front.

Do Microsoft 365 mailboxes need a separate backup?

Yes. Microsoft keeps the service running, but protecting your data from accidental deletion, ransomware or a compromised account is your responsibility. A separate backup lets you restore Exchange Online mailboxes, files and Teams data to any point within your retention period.

What does backup and disaster recovery cost per month?

Backup and disaster recovery is quoted after a complimentary IT review. Cost depends on the amount of data stored, retention and your recovery time targets.
